Dr. Harry Benjamin, author of the groundbreaking book, The Transsexual Phenomenon, died in 1986 at the age of 101. On January 10, 1987, a memorial service was held for Dr. Benjamin at the New York Academy of Medicine. This three-hour service was videotaped and edited down to thirteen minutes. Those who spoke at the service and appear in this presentation include Charles Ihlenfeld, M.D., Hans Lefeldt, M.D., Garret Oppenheim, Joel Fort, M.D., Virginia Allen, John Money, Ph.D., Walter Futterweit, M.D., Leah Schaefer, Ed.D., Christine Wheeler, Ph.D., Christine Jorgensen, Richard Green, M.D., J.D. and Renee Richards, M.D. This is a unique opportunity to both see and hear these prominent sexologists share their memories and perspectives.

Mark, thank you so much for this important salute to "the Father of Transsexuals," who also helped many trans Canadians, like me. I was privileged to be in attendance at this anniversary of his birth (sitting in the front row on the extreme left with my three Toronto trans women friends). I published a professional profile on Dr. Benjamin in my 1985 "Metamorphosis" newsletter (part of my collection in the Canadian Lesbian & Gay Archives), and he sent me a signed paper back copy of his book, "The Transsexual Phenomenon," inscribing it: "In praise of your work" (for my 14 years of trans activism since 1971) Dr. Charles Ihlenfeld gave me my first testosterone shot on October 5, 1971 in his and Harry's Manhattan, NYC office (where I flew in from Ottawa) when I was 19, just after Harry had retired. I'm mentioning both Charles and Harry in my memoirs (due to be published March 2017 by Transgress Press). We need more cis prof allies like Harry, a true pioneer in service of trans people. In solidarity, Rupert Raj

Thank you, the error was corrected.

This is an excellent tribute. I must point out, however, the error in the description. As I'm sure you're aware, Dr. Benjamin passed in 1986, not 1996.
